GLOBAL SUBSIDIES INITIATIVE
High Level Advisory Group
In order to achieve the highest degrees of political impact, the GSI has formed a High Level Advisory Group: a board that possesses exceptional credentials in the field of international economics, trade, and sustainable development. The experience, reputation and contacts of the High Level Advisor Group are essential to the GSI's success.
Current members of the Group include:
- Mats Hellström (Sweden) was Governor of the Province of Stockholm. He was also formerly Sweden's Ambassador to Germany, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Trade (1983-86) and Minister for Agriculture (1986-91).
- Dr. Norman Myers (UK) is a leading author, lecturer, economist and environmental scientist, and serves as an adviser to the World Bank and other leading international institutions. He is the author of a “Perverse Subsidies” and other books on the topic of subsidies and sustainable development.
- Dr. Ismail Serageldin (Egypt) is a former Vice President for Sustainable Development of the World Bank, and presently the Director General of the Biblioteca Alexandriana (Alexandria Library) in Egypt.
- Prof. Horst Siebert (Germany) is the President Emeritus of the Kiel Institute for World Economics, member of the European Commission’s Group of Economic Analysis, and a leading writer and lecturer on economic affairs.
- Dr. Paula Stern (United States) is President of The Stern Group in Washington DC, and former chair of the International Trade Commission in the United States.
- The Rt. Hon. Simon Upton (New Zealand). Mr. Upton is former Environment Minister, a former Chair of the UN Committee on Sustainable Development, and currently the Chair of the OECD Sustainable Development Roundtable.
