The GSI's media portal houses information and tools designed to help journalists investigate and report on subsidies, particularly those that are poorly designed, wasteful, or result in unintended negative consequences.
- Journalism Grants: The GSI offers grants to journalists world-wide who have demonstrated an aptitude for investigative journalism and who wish to pursue a special journalistic project on the links between subsidies and sustainable development
- Inter Press Service media partnership: IPS is the world’s leading news and features agency specialized in covering development issues, civil society and the process of globalization
Regional Media Forums
Going past government rhetoric and identifying the real-life consequences that result from government subsidies requires in-depth investigative journalism. Done well, investigations that follow the money trail make interesting reading. Done really well, this work can trigger public debate and ultimately even transform public policy. The Global Subsidies Initiative’s Regional Media Forums are designed to help provide journalists with the tools and resources required to undertake investigative projects on the linkages between subsidies and sustainable development.
